Diode Technologies, Inc. develops software and hardware products for training medical personnel worldwide in key medical and surgical skills. Our products are surgical simulators or Virtual Reality (VR) trainers. Diode offers consulting services for the design and development of single specialty (surgery or anesthesiology) or multidisciplinary simulation centers including equipment, curriculum, layout/space, integration of simulation into existing programs.
Our products are primarily software and hardware designed along with the next generation mannequin and advanced equipments and tools for monitoring. Thus creating a simulated environment where surgeons can practice and improve their technical skills.
Simulation is a technique – not a technology – to replace or amplify real patient experiences with guided experiences, artificially contrived, that evoke or replicate substantial aspects of the real world in a fully interactive manner. Medical education has been based on apprenticeship techniques since the era of Hippocrates. Two of the major challenges that confront the healthcare system are the accelerating need for education of practitioners and students and the imperative to maintain and improve patient safety in a rapidly changing healthcare milieu. As a highly technical diagnostic and treatment modalities advance, new chemo-and bio-pharmalogical methodologies abound and medical knowledge rapidly multiplies. We are daunted by the responsibility of educating a vast number of professionals in an expansive range of fields. Simulation techniques allow for interaction with almost any pre-programmed scenarios on demand.
This educational mission cannot be achieved with traditional approaches alone. The educationalists report that adult learners absorb and retain more knowledge and are able to apply their understanding to new problems if their learning is experiential and immersive. In the healthcare field, high-fidelity simulators were first introduced for anesthesia training in the 1990’s. Today, healthcare professionals in nearly all disciplines are using simulation techniques including simulated and virtual patients, mannequin simulators, task-trainers and computers to improve education and impact patient safety.
Simulation in its many forms and faces offers incredible promise for advancement of education technique in medicine, surgery, nursing, allied health and other domains in healthcare. Simulation has the potential for the evolution of a new teaching paradigm for the new millennium. These techniques do not depend on hospital encounters and can be re-run, stopped, or otherwise altered to enhance educational value.
